You can get it stamped in any US Consulate. Now US Consulates are located only outside the US. So you can get it stamped in either Canada or Mexico. Canada might be better if you have language problems in Mexico.
In order to do that, you try to contact the US Consulate in Canada first and get an appointment. Once you get an appointment, you can book ur flight and get a Canadian visa. Remember to take all the documentation that may be necessary for the stamping.
Pitfalls - If your visa is rejected, you will not be allowed to enter the US. Going back to China would be the only option left then.
Even if your H1 is approved, you still need to clear the interview or convince the interview officer at the US consulate (that your intentions are not to settle in the US) for the stamping. But again, you do not need a stamping on your passport as long as you are not leaving the US. You still can work on your H1 in the US. You will need a visa only if you leave the country and want to come back. Then you need a stamping to show to the immigration officials. There are many forums where people discuss their experience at the consulates. Pls go through the forums. Will give you an insight.
