i have a black penny stamp from 1840 with the letters I on left corner and H on right corner what is the value
This stamp was printed in the following position in the sheet
Row 9 (I) column 8(H) if there are only two letters
If there are 4 letters then there are two possibilities
Row 9 (I) column 8(H) if I-H are at the top and H-I at the bottom
Row 8(H) column 9(I) if top is H-I and bottom is I-H
Simple as long as the watermark is there, and this is not a fake.
If the watermark is inversed, the value is double.
The value of the stamp itself does not depend on the letters but on the condition. Regular stamps may fetch $10 used.
However collectors who try to get a copy of each stamp of the sheet (with every combination of letters) will pay a bit more if they need it. Here again you can expect to double.
